Calling an emergency electrician can feel stressful, but here at PES Heating and Plumbing, we do everything we can to alleviate that stress. That’s why today we’re sharing this handy guide on everything you should (and shouldn’t) do in the event of an electrical emergency, as well as when to arrange an emergency electrician callout.
What Constitutes an Emergency?
First things first, let’s talk about what we mean by emergency. An electrical emergency can cover many circumstances, but the most common types of emergencies fall into one of two categories: something is broken, and something is behaving in a way it shouldn’t.
The former is usually easier to assess as an emergency. If all your power goes out and you can’t seem to get it back, you know that something is wrong. On the other hand, if you’ve got a few flickering bulbs or an appliance that won’t start up, then assessing that can be a little bit more involved. That said, if you believe it’s a hazard, then that’s the time to call an emergency electrician.
Assessing A Hazard
In terms of assessing a hazard, it’s usually better to play it safe than sorry. Of course, if you’re way off the mark, then the electrician can usually tell you over the phone. On the other hand, if you’ve got sparks shooting out of a plug socket, that’s not a time to take any risks.
Of course, many cases do fall into that grey area in between, so remember that, when in doubt, Google is your friend. While you should always be careful with what you read online, most of the time, someone else will have had the same problem as you and you’ll be able to find the answer.
All that said, if you think there’s even a slight chance that something might be an electrical hazard, be sure to keep your distance and make certain that any children are also kept well away.
Emergency Electrician Call Outs
As we said before, when you call an emergency electrician, the first thing you’ll want to discuss over the phone is the exact nature of the problem, allowing the expert to decide what’s best.
Here at PES, we take every call seriously and always respond straight away to ensure that your problem is fixed as quickly and safely as possible.
